This past year, inclusive of both Early and Regular Action, 33,240 students applied to join the MIT Class of 2025. This is an unprecedented increase of 66% over last year, when we received 20,075 applications, and is far and away the most applications we have ever received. Nonetheless, we carefully considered them all, subjecting them to the same standard of attentive, empathetic, holistic review, taking as much time as needed to get the job done right.  

It was an incredible amount of work, and, as I wrote in Early, it would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our entire team: the admissions officers who read your applications, the support staff who made it possible for them to do so, and the Educational Council of alumni interviewers who volunteered so much time speaking with so many students. Nor would it have been possible without so many teachers, counselors, and mentors supporting our applicants through the process. We have often compared the MIT education to climbing a mountain, and this year’s application process felt a little bit like that too: we are grateful for everyone who helped us get there. 

Of those 33,240 applicants, we have offered admissions to 1,340, who will have the opportunity to climb that mountain together. Though they all do different things — painting and paleontology, meteorology and macramé, stargazing and
